Summer’s Over – Now’s the Time to Check Your Diamonds!

Summer is officially behind us, and while we’re ready to cosy up for autumn, this is the perfect time to give your jewellery a little post-holiday check up.

I often remind my clients that their jewellery is designed to be worn and loved everyday, but they do also need attention. After months of sunscreen, sports, salt water, and sand, your gemstones, settings and claps might not be quite as secure or sparkling as they were at the start of the season. Now is the time to check them.

Why it matters

Summer’s wear and tear adds up
From beach days to tennis matches, your jewellery goes through more than you realise in the summer months. Sand, sweat and sun cream can lodge in settings and reduce sparkle.

Claws and settings can loosen
A quick shake of your ring might reveal a tiny rattle which is a sign that your stone needs tightening before it risks falling out.

Sunscreen and oils leave a film that dulls brilliance. A professional clean can bring back that crisp, clear sparkle you love.

What you can do at home

Soak your jewellery in some warm water and dish soap for 20 minutes
Brush gently with a soft toothbrush to gently clean your jewellery, focussing on those hard to reach places
Rinse with clean water
Pat dry with a lint-free cloth
If anything feels loose, don’t wear it until it’s checked.
